What do you need to send to the jury of the Flemish Dissertation Award?
You must upload a digital version of your thesis or send it in on CD-ROM, together with the official certificate stating you have graduated (in the academic year 2009-2010). You must also fill in the registration form and enclose a well-written, accessible and publishable article, with your name and first name in the right upper corner and your bibliography.
How do you write a journalistic article?
The jury of the Flemish Dissertation Award selects a longlist based on the journalistic articles. You must thus make sure your article is well-written and accessible. Keep in mind that it should be able to be published in a newspaper. The length is limited to 7000 signs, interspacing included. Do not forget to put your name and first name in the upper right corner, and the full bibliography at the bottom.

What is the deadline for entering your dissertation?
We must receive your dissertation and your article, together with the certificate and the other information before October, 11. 2010.
Where do you have to send the dissertation to?
You must send the certificate stating you have passed your exams and your dissertation, together with the dissertation on CD-ROM (if you cannot upload it through the registration form) to: De Vlaamse Scriptieprijs, Rozenweg 4b, 1731 Zellik (Please do NOT send it by registered post!).
Who will be in the jury?
Every year, a jury of experts decides who of the five nominees deserves to win the Flemish Dissertation Award. The jury consists of a selection of prominent journalists, publishers, leading authors and notable scientists and academics from different domains.
The jury is appointed by the Members of the Board of the Scriptie vzw and under the auspices of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts and the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature. The members will not be revealed until on the night of the presentation of the Flemish Dissertation Award.

What happens to the dissertation?
Your dissertation will be published in an online database, the Dissertation bank.
What does the dissertation have to be about?
Your dissertation can discuss any subject you like, as long as it is scientifically and journalistically 'useful'. This means that it has to be original, innovative and accessible, as well in your choice of subject as in the elaboration.
Where will the award ceremony be held?
This year, the award ceremony will be held in the Royal Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts.
When will the award ceremony be held?
The award ceremony of the Flemish Dissertation Award, the "Klasse" Award, the "Agoria" Award ánd the "EOS" Award will be held on December, 7. 2010.
Who is the organizer of the Flemish Dissertation Award?
The "Scriptie vzw" organizes the Flemish Dissertation Award, and this under the auspices of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts and the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature.
When will you know whether or not you are selected ?
The longlist will be announced by the end of November 2010.
In what language does your dissertation has to be written?
We prefer dissertations written in Dutch, but dissertations in other languages can of course compete as well. Only the journalistic article has to be written in Dutch.
