Het verband tussen seksfrequentie, relatieduur, leeftijd, geslacht en etniciteit. Resultaten van de SEXPERT-STUDIE.

Seksclichés op de rooster gelegd

Een prille relatie is… kriebels in de buik elke keer als je de ander ziet. Je maakt je mooi. Je wil er perfect uitzien. Elke ontmoeting eindigt steevast met een hoogtepunt: minutenlang stomende seks. Op bed. Op de keukentafel. In de zetel. In de douche. Maar blijft dit duren wanneer weken maanden worden? En maanden jaren? De clichés zeggen van niet.

Voor het eerst werd onderzocht hoe vaak een Vlaming in een relatie seks heeft. Onder seks wordt verstaan: “allerlei manieren van vrijen waarbij er genitaal contact is”. Laat je fantasie dus gerust de vrije loop. Daarnaast werd er gekeken of seksfrequentie samenhangt met leeftijd, relatieduur en geslacht. Een aantal clichés werden onder de loep genomen in de grootste studie ooit (1832 Vlamingen!) naar onze seksuele gezondheid: de SEXPERT-studie. De gegevens werden verzameld in 2013 en recent geanalyseerd. En de resultaten? Die zijn exact wat je zou verwachten. Een jong persoon heeft meer seks dan een oud persoon. En in een prille relatie duikt men meer onder de lakens, dan in een relatie van pakweg vijftien jaar. Studies uit de V.S, Finland, Frankrijk en Nederland toonden hetzelfde resultaat aan. En toch moeten er een paar kanttekeningen bij gemaakt worden.

 

De naakte waarheid.

Mensen in een relatie hebben gemiddeld 1,4 keer seks per week. De hoeveelheid seks per week vermindert naarmate men ouder wordt en naarmate men langer in een relatie zit. Maar wat vertellen de cijfers ons hier nog meer over? Heeft een ouder persoon minder seks, omdat hij of zij vaak al langer in een relatie zit? Of is dit enkel en alleen te wijten aan leeftijd? De studie toont aan dat het om een combinatie van beide factoren gaat. Stel: een zeventigjarige vrouw ontmoet een hunk in het café op de hoek. Er bloeit iets moois. Aan het begin van deze relatie zal de zeventigjarige gemiddeld meer seks hebben dan een leeftijdsgenoot in een lange relatie. Toch zal deze zeventigjarige gemiddeld minder seks hebben dan een twintigjarige op vrijersvoeten. Deze daling in seksfrequentie met de leeftijd is even sterk bij mannen als bij vrouwen.

 

De uitzondering bevestigt de regel.

De clichés mogen dan al bekrachtigd zijn, toch bevestigen een aantal uitzonderingen de regel. De resultaten bij holebi’s en Vlamingen van Turkse origine weken deels af van de eerdergenoemde bevindingen. Zo daalt de hoeveelheid seks bij een holebivrouw sterker naarmate ze ouder wordt, dan bij een holebiman. Voor relatieduur werd hetzelfde effect gevonden.

Wat er opviel bij Vlamingen van Turkse origine, was dat Turkse vrouwen aangaven minder seks te hebben als ze ouder werden, terwijl Turkse mannen aangaven op elke leeftijd even vaak seks te hebben. Dan rest de vraag: met wie hadden deze Turkse mannen dan seks? Het antwoord moet ik je voorlopig schuldig blijven. Misschien voer voor een volgend onderzoek!

 

Homo’s hebben meer seks.

Een ander cliché is dat homo’s vaker seks hebben dan hetero’s en lesbische vrouwen. Ook dat klopt. Mannen die seks hebben met mannen hebben bijna 2 keer per week seks. Heteroseksuelen en lesbische vrouwen 1,5 keer per week. Homo’s hebben, volgens een studie uit Engeland, vaker de afspraak dat seks buiten de relatie toegelaten is. Daar ligt misschien de reden van het hogere cijfer. De Vlaamse holebisteekproef was relatief jong, wat de hogere gemiddelde seksfrequentie ook kan verklaren.

 

Meer en heter, minder en beter?

Als we ouder worden gebruiken we de keukentafel misschien vaker om aan te eten. In de slaapkamer vallen we steeds sneller in slaap. In de zetel kijken we voor het eerst écht naar het journaal. Althans, gemiddeld. Onze zeventigjarige vrouw en haar hunk uit het café op de hoek wagen zich misschien nog wel aan een nummertje in de keuken. En dan bedoel ik niet nummer 57 bij de Chinees. Alle clichés op een stokje: de hoeveelheid seks bepaalt echt niet alleen hoe gelukkig je samen bent.  Doe het dus vooral maar hoe vaak u het zelf wil.
