De rol van seksuele scripts in seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag tussen Vlaamse adolescenten
Jongeren en seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag: het oude normaal
‘Da’s erg, maar niet zo erg.
Alsof je een ijsje laat vallen.’
Eén op twee Vlaamse jongeren werd al zonder toestemming intiem aangeraakt. En daar komen nog dagelijks getuigenissen bij. Ook Generatie Z worstelt met seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag, en zowel daders als slachtoffers reageren vaak schouderophalend. Die banalisering aanpakken, betekent echter ook hun traditionele blik op relaties en seksualiteit aanpakken.

‘Als dat gebeurt, is het uw leven dat in elkaar zakt en je weet echt niet waar je naartoe moet.'
Seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag laat littekens na bij jonge tieners, van het soort waar ouders zelfs niet aan durven denken. Helaas is er geen eenduidige wonderoplossing voor dergelijke problematiek. Maar met behulp van seksuele scripts – kortweg: cultureel voorgeschreven scenario’s voor seksueel contact - valt alvast een deel van het antwoord te formuleren. Onderzoek bij Vlaamse heterojongeren tussen 16 en 18 jaar toonde namelijk een helder verband aan tussen bepaalde scripts en de manier waarop jongeren tegenover ongewenste seksuele aanrakingen staan.
Will boys be boys?
Van de bevraagde jongeren hanteert het gros een gemengd script. Ze geloven weliswaar in gelijkwaardige rollen voor man en vrouw, maar blijven tegelijk steken in hardnekkige traditionele genderrollen. Te verstaan: mannen behoren dominant te zijn op dates en te allen tijde seks te willen, terwijl de ‘passieve’ vrouw zedig haar grenzen moet bewaken. Tegelijk worstelen vrouwelijke respondenten wel met het schizofrene maatschappijbeeld dat hen vraagt om zich niet alleen zedig maar tegelijk begeerlijk te presenteren. ‘Wat wil de wereld nu eigenlijk van ons?’ Ongewenste aanrakingen op fuiven worden ook genormaliseerd onder jongeren. ‘Ge weet dat er zoveel kan gebeuren met u, gewoon omdat ge effe wilt gaan fuiven.’ Eerder dan er tegenin te gaan, zoeken meisjes dan maar de sterkte van de groep op. ‘We hebben veel regels, zoals om het halfuur een berichtje sturen dat alles oké is.’
Ook de seksuele dubbele standaard blijkt hardnekkig. Zelfs bij jongeren die op zijn minst lippendienst bewijzen aan een gelijkwaardigheid tussen de genders. Zo hanteren jongens bijvoorbeeld nog steeds een puntensysteem om meisjes op te delen, en heten meisjes die meerdere partners hadden nog steeds een slet terwijl jongens in hetzelfde geval eerder als stoer bestempeld worden. ‘Als een jongen veel meisjes heeft gehad dan is het van “oh goed gedaan”, als een meisje dat doet dan is het echt van “oh das een slet en een hoer”.’
Erg, maar niet zo erg.
Bij jongeren die er een klassieke, stereotiepe visie op na houden, wordt het pas echt zorgwekkend. Zij blijven niet enkel steken in traditionele genderrollen, maar lijken ook fysiek seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag veel vaker te normaliseren. Bedenkelijke ervaringen werden haast gebanaliseerd. ‘Da’s alsof je een ijsje laat vallen. Erg, maar niet zo erg.’ Tegelijk bleken zij ook moeilijker en met meer schroom te spreken over vrouwelijke seksualiteit, grensoverschrijdende gedrag en dies meer.
Wat nu?
Het mag duidelijk zijn dat er geen pasklaar antwoord is. Waar werkelijk nood aan is, is een haast evidente mentaliteitswijziging op het vlak van seksualiteit en relaties. Maar hoe deze wijziging er zal komen, is geen evident te beantwoorden vraag. Een samenspel van media, onderwijs, ouders, de onderzoekswereld en de overheid lijkt het meeste kans op slagen te hebben. Uit de data bleek namelijk dat ouders vaak in het ongewisse waren en dat er op scholen amper een woord gerept werd over toestemming, seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag en genderrollen. Enkel door collectief onze schouders te zetten onder een mentaliteitswijziging, kunnen we een einde maken aan deze schouderophalende cultuur.
